Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, if I haven’t mentioned here before, is unbelievably good. Thanks to Jets Twit, via Gang Green Nation, we can now see just how good thanks to this handy table. Here is what Darrelle Revis has done to opposing wide receivers this season:
That does not bode well for TedQuarters hero Chad Ochocinco.
The folks at ProFootballFocus.com (h/t to Will Davidian) grade every NFL player on every play on a scale of -2 to +2. (Full disclosure: I’m not entirely sold on their methodology because they seem to think Kerry Rhodes can tackle, which he clearly cannot.)
By their rankings, Revis is the best corner in the league by a wide margin. In coverage, Revis scores a 30.6. The next closest cornerback, Charles Woodson, scores a 17.8.
According to their stats, when the ball is thrown in Darrelle Revis’ general direction, opposing QBs post a 31 QB rating. 31. Thirty One. That means Darrelle Revis makes every quarterback he faces look worse than JaMarcus Russell. And that’s really, really, really bad.
Anyway, you don’t need numbers to tell you Revis is awesome. Just watch the game Sunday night.

Anyone who doubts Revis will be shut down by Revis. He was pretty good last year, but this year he’s taken it to some other, ridiculous, previously unseen level. I’m not normally one for buying the hype (ie Rhodes), but Revis is all they say he is and then some. I don’t even understand how he’s doing it. He’s exceptionally good at football. I think the Beltran comp is fair.

The funny thing about this chart is that the most yardage against Revis in any single game was thrown by Raiders qbs (I can’t remember if Russell played all or any of that game).
You just keep making me sadder that Revis didn’t get down to the Giants in that draft and they had to settle for Aaron Ross.
Stats don’t work as well in football. Wayne had Revis beat twice but dropped two TDs. Revis has been great this year, but Manning-Wayne schooled him last week.
I definitely, definitely agree that stats don’t work well in football. But bear in mind that by the same token, there could be a reason Manning overthrew Wayne on the two plays Wayne had Revis beat. Manning so rarely throws errant passes that it strikes me as pretty likely that Wayne had to do something different on his route to get away from Revis and, in so doing, crossed up Manning.
That’s a fair point, but I’ve seen Wayne catch TD’s like the one he dropped a few times this season. He should have had that one. If memory serves he dropped a couple other passes as well. Of course, Revis probably made them work harder than usual.
However, I am a Packer fan and think Woodson should be DPOY, so I am biased

According to my calculation, 10 of the 15 games have been against Pro Bowlers and that doesn’t include Mike Sims-Walker, who might be one this year. Final numbers – 46 catches, 465 yards, 3 TDs…and 6 interceptions.
If the Jets make the playoffs and Charles Woodson or Darren Sharper win the Defensive MVP, people need to be shot.
