Sure, it may be hindsight, but I don't think a "The media is just as dumb as I am" is a great defense of the job he's done. Walsh has a lot of powerful media friends in this town and that's really helped him. And sure, some other teams "missed" on Jennings, but most of them got real nice players. And considering the Knicks huge need at the point, the D'Antoni-Jennings Italian League connections, the Knicks need to a dynamic young star, I think it's fair to get on them for missing him. But isn’t it Walsh’s job to determine these things? Sure, it may be hindsight, but I don’t think a “The media is just as dumb as I am” is a great defense of the job he’s done.

Most of the experts on draft day concluded Hill to be a solid pick for the Knicks in that spot. I'm sure if Walsh had a crystal ball and was privy to how the fist half of the would turn out (as the experts are now when they write about hindsight), I think Walsh would probably have picked Jennings too. Lets also not forget that there were what 10 other teams that passed on Jennings too. The media would have you think the Knicks were the only team that missed the boat.
