I am not a fan of the Olympics

By Ted Berg on Jan 21, 2010, 4:05 pm

Excuse me if you’ve heard some of this shtick before: I am no fan of the Olympic Games.

I’m sorry, but they’re boring. Call me when you’re baseball, Olympics.

Anyway, I wrote a humor piece for the Perpetual Post about the subject, refuted ably by Akie Bermiss. Check it out.

I like the Olympics. I like that some of these sports are a bit obscure, its what makes it inertesting every 4 years. I appreciate the training that any athlete of that caliber goes through and some of the stuff is pretty exciting.

Downhill skiing? The Super G? Those people are flying down the hill at 70 MPH, on a sheet of ice, dressed in spandez, relying n nothing more than a 1/4 inch wide metal edge to keep them from careening to possible serious injury or death. This is easily 100x more thrilling than NASCAR.

The Olympic Ice Hockey tournament is awesome.

I was going to say the same thing. The Sweden-Finland gold medal game four years ago was one of the best sporting events I’ve watched in the past few years.

right on, ted. screw the olympics. nbc’s terrible coverage doesnt help either.

i do recommend, however, finding a way to bet on the olympics. preferably betting on random countries. nothing like refreshing your browser incessantly at work to see if the estonians can medal in the nordic ski comps.

Agreed, the olympics are extremely dull.
